Counting only DOAs list of recasted dolls, 466 dolls have been recasted. So I want us to do just a little fun bit of math here to see how much damage the hobby is having done to it.
First, let’s decide that 500 is the price…
think about it before you buy a recast. don’t argue that the arbitrary use of $500 is overstating it - some recast items may be as low as $100 legit, or over $900. it all evens out enough in the end that $500 is a good enough number for use.
also, the argument that you are getting a recast of something that was limited or is no longer offered for sale is a bs argument. buy second hand and the person you are buying from could be funneling that money back into the hobby. a company sees that a number of people are buying recasts of a limited, discontinued, or gift item and they may not offer limiteds or gifts in the future - or they may not bring back a discontinued sculpt for sale. perhaps they decide that too many people are buying recasts and it has put a dent in their moral or profit and they either up the price or close. what would you do then?
think first. money talks, but not always in the way you think it is. spend your money on a recast and you are saying that you don’t appreciate or care for the companies and artists that make those pretty dolls you like. you’re not saving a buck. you’re not ‘sticking it to the man’ - either being a rebel against all those elitists, f*ing with people by passing off a recast as legit, or protesting against high priced goods. you’re being an ass and ruining the fun for everyone.
